Who We Are

Mama Zahra Foundation (MZF) is an apolitical, non-profit, and gender-sensitive organization founded in 2012. With an unwavering commitment to the Somali people, MZF was established to address urgent humanitarian needs and advocate for vulnerable populations, including women, children, the elderly, and those with disabilities. By focusing on child protection, human rights, sustainable development, and peacebuilding, MZF strives to create a safer and more equitable society in Somalia, particularly in South/Central regions impacted by ongoing humanitarian crises.

Through a deep partnership with local communities and authorities, MZF has earned a reputation as a trusted and impactful organization. We collaborate with civil society groups, global humanitarian networks, and Somali government ministries, including the Ministry of Women and Human Rights, Ministry of Interior, and Ministry of Planning. Since its inception, MZF has completed over six transformative projects in Banadir, positively impacting thousands of lives.
Our work is powered by a team of passionate, non-partisan, Somali professionals with deep-rooted expertise in humanitarian response, human rights advocacy, child protection, and community development. Their specialized training ensures that MZF delivers both immediate and long-term solutions that are sustainable and scalable.
